FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex therapy is a form of psychotherapy that has a special focus on sex and sexuality. In our practice, this means understanding that a person’s sexuality is one core piece of the whole person. We treat sex like we treat every other topic in therapy - we want to understand it, explore it, consider the ways it connects to other aspects of your life and relationships, and work through any challenges as best we can. We work with all genders, identities, relationship models, lifestyles and are happy to integrate sex and sexuality as much or as little as is called for by your individual goals.

What is it not?

Sex therapy is not a “touch” therapy. We utilize many different approaches, including art therapy, mindfulness, and somatic approaches, but we do not use touch in any of our therapies.

How is sex therapy different from other kinds of therapy?

It’s really not all that different. We approach sexuality topics the same as we would any other topics - sex therapists have the same foundational training as traditional therapists, we just have added training to include more knowledge about sex.

What kind of concerns do you address with clients?

We address a range of life concerns, not just sexuality concerns. We see lots of people who have depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, confidence and self worth challenges, life transitions, and grief and loss, just to name a few.

How often will I have therapy sessions?

We recommend weekly sessions to start; this helps us build a strong relationship, helps the therapist get to know you, and this consistency is important to reach deeper issues. Bi-weekly sessions are also available.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take any insurances, but we are happy to provide a “superbill” for out of network reimbursements. If you want to go this route, it’s helpful for you to call your insurance company and check on the percentage they reimburse so you can come into therapy knowing what rates you can afford.

What are your fees?

My rates are $300 for individuals and $350 for couples, each additional partner in a poly relationship is an added $50. I also have limited sliding scale spots. Staff therapists set their own rates and sliding scale spots, please use the contact page or contact them directly for more information. Our interns charge $100 full fee for individuals, $125 for couples, and do offer sliding scale spots. No matter your financial situation, we hope we can find someone to fit your needs.

How long does therapy take?

It really depends on you and your needs. For some with less complex concerns, shorter term therapy (less than a year) can work. For some, untangling the pieces may take a bit longer, and others like the comfort and consistency of regular therapy even when no pressing concern is present.

Do you offer in person sessions?

This depends on the therapist. Some of our therapists do see clients in person one day per week, in person would be dependent on availability on that day. This is also subject to change based on therapist comfort.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

We do! We offer HIPAA compliant virtual therapy.

What is the cancellation policy?

As long as you cancel at least 48 hours before your session, there is no fee. Late cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will incur a fee equal to your session fee. We do understand that things come up and if we are able to reschedule within the week, we will waive the fee. No-shows are always charged the full session fee. In the case of an emergency such as a sudden illness, accident, or death in the family, we will waive all fees.
